It's the new, improved Salman

It's the new, improved Salman

The song Oh Oh Jaane Jaana went on to become a major hit and sparked off a fitness craze of sorts with every man attempting to achieve Salman Khan’s torso.

Even years later, the requests for Salman to strip haven’t stopped. “I feel better off now than I did 20 years ago,” says the actor who admits not being regular with his gymming. “

Growing up everyone wants to achieve a macho body but cannot because of a high metabolic rate. I’m lucky to have good genes and being into football also helps,” he says. Salman does not follow any particular exercise regime and changes his routine according to the look he wants to achieve. “

There are times when I need to get fit for a film within a week’s time and accordingly I alter my workout and eat correctly. Currently, I’m in this shape for my upcoming film Veer. When I’m not training, I indulge in biryani and rajma.

But it’s very important to have a balanced diet when you’re working out, as most diets are only rich in protein and low on carbs and so you hardly have any energy to workout,” states the actor. He believes in paying attention to the lower half of the body more than the upper half since that’s the foundation. “

When you train legs, you build faster and it is much easier overall. Getting at least two weeks of leg training is important,” he adds. Quiz the actor on the best bods in the industry and Sanjay Dutt is top on his list. “Sanju has become really fitness concious and carries off his buffed body really well.

Even Aamir Khan worked hard for his look in Ghajini.” The much-loved actor says that he is relaxed most of the time. “I’m not bothered that much by small things anymore. I try and remain calm and just forget the situation,” he says with a shrug.

Anil Sharma upsets Salman Khan

Anil Sharma upsets Salman Khan

Salman Khan
Apparently, Sharma frivolously wasted time in London, which could’ve been avoided if he had been better prepared for the shoot. The cavalier attitude inflated the budget considerably.

Salman had assured producer Vijay Galani that he would put his career back on track. Our source said, “Salman was so irritated by Sharma’s ways that he didn’t shy away from giving the director a earful on the sets.”

Revealing what transpired on the sets, a unit member said, “Anil Sharma doesn’t value time. Although we stayed in London for 30 days, the productivity was that of five days. Sharma asks for far too many retakes, so a lot of raw stock has been consumed. Plus, he hadn’t finalised the location. It is inexplicable that a director takes a unit abroad and doesn’t know where he is going to shoot next.”

However, Anil Sharma rebutted the story. He said, “There have been a lot of rumours about my London schedule. I would like to clarify that I had a very smooth shoot throughout. I had a wonderful working relationship with Salman. Veer is a period film and I shot scenes around Buckingham Palace, for which I had taken permission.”

Our source from the sets in London, disagreed. The source said, “For a 9am shift, Sharma would leave the hotel at 9.30am to hunt for the location. Often, he wouldn’t get the permission to shoot. If at all the shoot began, it wouldn’t be before 2.30pm. After which, it would not go on for more than four hours. We had to wind up by 6.30-7pm as most of the scenes were to be shot during the day. Everyday, the actors (including Salman) were left to cool their heels in the hotel while Sharma went to hunt for the locations.”

Not only Salman, but every actor was exasperated. The source concluded, “All of this magnified the cost of the film.”

Vijay Galani said, “We might have had a bit of a problem in getting permission to shoot at a certain place for a stipulated amount of time, but we didn’t have any major problems as such. I know Salman ever since he did my first film Suryavanshi and he has always been very supportive.”

Salman's Veer inspired by Gogol

Salman's Veer inspired by Gogol

salman
Who could have thought that Salman would actually be a part of a film that brings Russian literature to Bollywood? The actor’s much-awaited period drama, Veer, is inspired by the Russian literary masterpiece Taras Bulba written by Nikolai Gogol.

The epic, Taras Bulba is the story of the Cossack patriarch Taras and his two warrior sons, who set off on an epic journey that finally ends in a war with the Polish.

A source said, “Veer has all the swashbuckling elements that Salman enjoys watching in a film and he is sure that the audience enjoys it too. He discussed the idea with his director-friends and eventually asked Anil Sharma to make Taras Bulba into a Hindi film with Mithun Chakraborty as the patriarch and Salman and Sohail Khan as his two brave sons.”

The surprising part is Salman’s awareness of world literature. One hears Salman is a voracious reader in his spare time. He has also read the Hindu scriptures and would like to produce and star as Rama in a film based on the Ramayana.

Director Anil Sharma didn’t deny Veer’s association with Taras Bulba. “It’s not exactly Taras Bulba though some characters and relationships may be similar (to the book). Veer is a period film based in India in 1870.”

Interestingly, Salman takes credit for the story of Veer. Anil confirmed and said, “Yes, it is Salman’s story, which he wanted to make into a film for a long time."

Wonder if Gogol would’ve been flattered.
