John Abraham never had to work as hard as he did to get it right for his forthcoming film "1: 800 Love". A large part of the drama unfolds through telephone conversations and it was a litmus test for the actor to emote on phone, says director Abbas Tyrewala.

Sea-link not safe for bikers: John

Sea-link not safe for bikers: John

John

But, no. None are keen to open throttle and burn rubber on the Sealink. The Hayabusa-riding John Abraham admitted, “I could very well say that bikes should be allowed, but I do not think that bikers in general will be able to handle it from a safety point of view. The fact that the foaming sea lies below and that a skid or a mishandle can lead riders into a treacherous accident, makes me feel that it’s a good thing that bikes should not be allowed on the sealink.”

Suniel Shetty, a townie whose work takes him to the suburbs often, said he’d rather enjoy the view from his SUV. “The vast majority of Mumbai’s bikers are not disciplined enough to handle riding on the Sealink. A serious biker, I can speak for myself, but there are a lot of youngsters who go out biking Friday nights along Haji Ali in gangs. If riders like these were allowed on the Sealink, it would be an accident waiting to happen.” Salman Khan, who is passionate about bikes, and Akshay Kumar, who rides incognito to avoid traffic, prefer to do their biking in the suburbs or out of Mumbai.

Other bikers like Jimmy Mistry, who ride power machines like Harleys and the Triumph on Sunday mornings, are of the same opinion. “I drive bikes that, when handled incorrectly on any road, can kill. I feel that from a safety point of view, bikes should definitely not be allowed on the Sealink,” said Jimmy.

Restaurateur Riyaaz Amlani added, “We are taxpayers, too. But I think the Sealink can be a potential fatal accident zone for bikers riding at high speeds. Maybe when they open all eight lanes, they could keep one reserved for bikes.”

Bollywood director Sanjay Gupta, who keeps a stable of big bikes, grumbled that the freedom that bikers enjoy is a thing to be respected. “We should certainly be allowed but not at the cost of being a nuisance. A lot of open good roads are abused by reckless bikers and that should be controlled. Maybe one designated lane...” While television hottie Rohit Roy, an avid weekend biker, cautioned, “I feel bikes should be allowed, but we must respect the ban, authority must have some safety concerns because of which they are doing this.”

Others, like Bandra boy Dino Morea are champing at the ban and waiting to ride the lightning. “I honestly don’t see why bikes should not be allowed, it is after all another road. If it’s rash riding the authorities are worried about, then I guess the rules need to be stricter.” While filmmaker and businessman Parvez Damania, who will ride his Harley V-rod given an empty road, suggested, “Bikers could be allowed on the Sealink on Sunday for certain hours when there is lesser traffic. Otherwise it will become something just for the rich, and that’s not fair on everybody.”

Whatever the case may be, it does seem that the road ahead for bikers seems to indeed be a long one, even though it is smooth.

John’s nudity lands him in trouble

John Abraham
John Abraham’s nude scene in ‘New York’ lands him in a legal hassle. City court has asked Delhi police to register a case against the actor for posing nude in a magazine from the film ‘New York’. C.M. Dua, who runs an NGO, took notice of the matter and lodged a FIR against the actor, publisher and the editor of the magazine.

Dua in his petition said, “The lascivious, prurient and obscene acts and photographs being published and shown by established members of society and publication house... tend to corrupt young minds, which is very dangerous and suicidal for the coming generation, if not taken care of.”

Dua’s eyes first fell on the magazine when it was lying down on the study table of his children and on looking at the nude photo of John, he was shocked.

The photograph is from a scene in ‘New York’ when he was harassed by the American agencies after the 9/11 attack.
